About The Service:


 Q:  What meals do you provide?

 A:  A hot dinner and a light supper delivered to the home of the subscriber.


 Q:  How much does it cost?

 A:  $6.00 a day



Q:  When do you deliver?

A:  Around noon (between 11:00am – 1:00pm) Monday – Friday except for the following holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.


Q:  Where do you deliver?

A:  We deliver to Culver City, Beverlywood, Palms, Cheviot Hills, Pico-Robertson, Mar Vista, Playa Vista and parts of West LA, Marina Del Rey, Westchester and Venice.  The area served is bounded by Westchester Parkway on the south, La Cienega on the east, Pico Blvd and the Santa Monica City Limits on the north and the Pacific Ocean on the west.


Q:  How do I subscribe?

A:  Call the office at 310-559-0666.


Q:  How soon after I subscribe can I begin to get delivery?

A:  Typically within 2 to 3 days depending upon dietary requirements.


Q:  Do I have to take it for all 5 days?  What if I only want it part of the time?

A:  You can subscribe for less. The minimum service we provide is 3 days a week.


Q:  What if I want to stop service for a week or two while I am away from home?

A:  We ask that you call us by no later than noon on the day before you wish to put your service on hold.


Q:  What other services do you provide?  (Shopping, cleaning, errands, companionship, etc.?)

A:  We provide no other services.  CPMOW was created to provide meals to persons who are confined to their homes because of illness, accident, convalescence or age.


Q:  Are there any requirements to qualify for the service?

A:  The only criteria are that the person is confined to his home and cannot perform the shopping and cooking required to prepare meals.


 About The Food:

Q:  Does your organization cook the food?

A:  No.  We purchase it from a central kitchen that specializes in meals for seniors.


Q:  Is the cooking done by volunteers or staff?

A:  The cooking is done by paid professionals under the guidance of a registered dietician.


Q:  Are the facilities inspected by the Health Department? 

A:   Yes, the kitchen is in compliance with all health department regulations.


Q:  What are the meals like? 

A:  There is a 3 part tray for the hot meal that consists of a protein source (meat or if requested – a meat substitute), a cooked vegetable, and a starch (such as potato or rice).  There is a separate package that contains a sandwich, a salad, a fruit, dessert and milk or juice.


Q:  Are the meals healthy?

A:  Yes.  Preparation, packaging, and delivery of meals are done under the guidance of a registered dietician and menus are approved by the Department of Aging.


Q:  What if I have food allergies or am a diabetic or just plain don’t like peas? 

A:  We can accommodate most dietary requirements.  We have 4 special meal types (low-salt, diabetic, renal and pureed).  In addition, we will arrange for substitutes if there are foods that you do not like or cannot eat.



About The Volunteers:

Q:  What do volunteers do?

A:  Volunteers deliver the food to the homes of our clients.


Q:  Do I have to be able to drive?

A:  Not necessarily.  We need volunteers who drive, but our volunteers generally go out in teams of two, so only one of the two needs to be able to drive.


Q:  Do I use my own car or drive a MOW car or van?

A:   If you are a driver you would drive your own car.


Q:  Does CPMOW pay for my gas?

A:   Generally, no.  That is considered part of the volunteer service.


Q:  How big is the route?  How many miles will I be driving?

A:  The size varies a bit, but the routes tend to average about 15 miles round trip.


Q:  How much time does this take?

A:   We ask that you arrive to pick up the food by 10:45am.  Deliveries are generally completed by around 12:45pm, or sooner.


Q:  How many days a week do volunteers work?

A:   It varies according to preference.  Many work only one day a week.



About The Organization:

Q:  How long have you been around?

A:  We are celebrating our 35th anniversary this year.


Q:  How large is your organization?  How many people are on your staff?

A:  We have 4 paid staff and around 100 volunteers.  We deliver approximately 20,000 meals per year.


Q:  Is Meals On Wheels a national organization?

A:  Culver Palms Meals on Wheels is an independent local corporation that is a member of the Meals on Wheels Association of America – the oldest and largest organization in the United States representing those who provide meal services to people in need.


Q:  I see you are asking for donations, but you also charge for the service.  Why is that?

A:  We are primarily client-funded, but in order to keep our services affordable and to provide to all who have a need, the rates we charge do not always cover all of our costs.  We rely on contributions from the local community to bridge the gap.
